Solely Reviving !

Soon Winter will be temporarily sidelined and Spring will reappear. Needless to say I am elated to welcome the warmth of the Sun's rays as I once more bid adieu to the chill of Old Man Winter. Until the flowers blossom I will focus on Abstract Painter, Wassily Kandinsky's,Color Studies above as a reminder of Spring's Rebirth to come. Hmmm, just thinking of Spring reminds me of Sergio Rossi's budding sole below and this sweet saying: "Listen, can you hear it? Spring's cantata. The strains of grass pushing through the snow. The song of buds swelling on the vine. The tender timpani of a baby robin's heart. Spring."-- Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneide.

Solely Subliminal !

Photography is such a wondrous medium maybe that's why I've always enjoyed Fashion photographer Guy Bourdin's work. He photographed one of my fav photographs above, titled " Dummy legs", it's solely surreal. Every time I look at this photograph it reminds me of this saying : "Surrealism! What is Surrealism? In my opinion, it is above all a reawakening of the poetic idea in art, the reintroduction of the subject but in a very particular sense, that of the strange and illogical." ---Paul Delvaux
Hmmm, my innermost in thought is if only Guy B
ourdin were alive today to capture Nicholas kirkwood's eccentric sole below in its subconscious state of Spring 2009.

Solely Imitating !

Novelist Nicholson Baker once said " Shoes are the first adult machines we are given to master." I solely agree with him and judging from the chopines ( high platform soles) above I can only envision the difficulty of walking in them in the 16th century in Venice. Of course these soles of social status did serve a purpose, the higher you were the less likely your feet and clothing would get wet. Hmmm , it looks as if the dream team of Dolce and Gabbana turned their dream into a reality by modeling their Spring'09 sole below after the heightened sole above in high hopes of uplifting our sole-sense of the past.

Solely Ingenuity !

Today as I was sole surfing I discovered an awe-inspiring sculptor, Gaza Bowen who is solely intriguing, on an interactive website: Soulmates: Century in shoes, simply click on the dial a decade of shoes button and the adventure begins by clicking each decade. When I observe both Gaza's sculpture: Homage to Antonio above and Balenciaga's sculpted sole below I think of something Auguste Rodin said "There are unknown forces in nature; when we give ourselves wholly to her, without reserve, she lends them to us; she shows us these forms, which our watching eyes do not see, which our intelligence does not understand or suspect."

Solely Hot !

I confess I have a penchant for the color Red, thanks to its friend: Love, the one and only emotion to inflame me with a sensation of heated passion. "If one says "Red" and there are fifty people listening, it can be expected that there will be fifty reds in their minds. And one can be sure that all these reds will be very different." Hmmm, judging from Sculptor Bruce Gray's suggestive Red Shoe Fetish wall sculpture and Designer Roger Vivier's flirtatious Red steamy sole below I solely agree with Abstract Painter, Joseph Albers quote of Red.

Solely Abiding !

I have always been quietly charmed by the elegance and splendor of French painter Jean Fautrier, one of my fav paintings is his enchanting painting "Fleurs"above from the collection of now deceased Fashion Designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Berge which will be auctioned off next month at Christies in Paris. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said,"Flowers...are a proud assertion that a ray of beauty outvalues all the utilities of the world." Hmmm, like Yves Saint Laurent's dear friend Valentino's everlasting genteel sole below which elicits a quality of beauty that delights my eyes with such admiration, no wonder Yves Saint Laurent said, "Fashions fade, style is eternal."

Solely Quintessential !

Odilon Redon
once said, "While I recognize the necessity for a basis of observed reality - true art lies in a reality that is felt." Abstract Expressionist Painter:
Jean Michel Basquiat's untitled painting of a Boxer above is the epitome of this beautiful quote. Hmmm, no wonder why it sold for $14 million at Sotheby's its beauty is the core of its essence just like Dries Van Noten's tactile sole below is the substance of texture for Spring'09.

Solely Silent !

I am solely grateful for the current exhibition "Creativity in Color" at the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum in Florence, Italy. This amazing exhibit woos me with its array of charming and graceful soles of many hues. Artist Georgia O'Keeffe once said, " I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way--things I had no words for." Hmmm, just like the unspoken sole below by Salvatore Ferragamo it needs no one to speak for it because it speaks a language of Happiness.

Solely Exhilarating !

The most hypnotic form of art to me is the mobile invented by one of my fav sculptors: Alexander Calder. I find it to be ingenious the way Calder uses abstract pieces to exert energy in such a dynamic manner of movement and balance that they actually change the rhythm of the mobile as seen above in the Maquette piece made of sheet metal, paint and wire at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.  Hmmm,  I would be solefully moved if my feet could flow in an upbeat tempo, and land harmoniously into Sergio Rossi's  recurring alternation of ruffles below.

Solely Undivided !

Appearance is sound especially when it stands still in time like Utopian Sculptor:
Damon Hyldreth's   intriguing stainless steel sculpture: "Knot" above.  There is a passionate eclecticism that radiates from a welded piece of art without question it is true love at first sight that soon evolves into one; the only difference is it becomes married to its design like Proenza Schouler's united sole below for Spring'09.

Solely With Ties !

As soon as I laid eyes on Trace Meek's welded Muse soles above I became solely untied. One of my fav quotes is by French Writer, Antoine de Saint-Exupery who once said "A low trick I hate to stoop to is tying and untying my shoelaces."  I must agree, maybe this is why Prada's sole below has me in a knot and tongue-tied.

Solely Uphill !

I enjoy extending myself to a greater height especially to unveil a watercolor of a sole that is as captivating as its solemate below by Marc Jacobs. Hmmm, I do wonder which came first Edith Dora Rey's If The Shoe Fits or Jacobs Canvas and leather stiletto fetish sole.
I may never know but I do know they both make me feel solely exorbitantly high in stature.

Solely Sensational !

I have always been fascinated by installation art because it stimulates my senses by transmitting impulses of tactile and visual curiosity. When I look at Gyaeyoung Song's Cinderella's Shoeaholic piece above, I feel as if I have taken a plunge into a world that is solely eccentric. Although I have become receptive to the soles made of handmade paper, thread and oil in all reality it is Miu Miu's world of the atypical bow tied sole below I wish to step into.

Solely Contemporary !

The beauty of a 3-D object is captivating not because it casts a shape that is fashionably chiseled but it molds a breed of fabrication that is beyond one's imagination like designer Marloes Ten Bhomer has done with her inventive cutting edge soles above. Hmmm, now if only I could slip my foot into Calvin Klein's stylish, hollow device below.

Solely Noblesse !

Today it's snowing with ten inches of snow already on the ground and more to come, sooo I've decided to stay in and read Antonia Fraser's " Marie Antoinette The Journey". Whenever I think of Marie Antoinette, I think of 18th century footwear and her extraordinary collection of beautiful soles. Of course, when the Queen was fleeing she lost one of the exquisite satin ribbon trimmed soles she was wearing; thanks to the Musee Carnavalet the sole was recovered and now has a home. Hmmm, if ever Nina Ricci's courtly satin ribbon slingback below wishes to flee from the Spring'09 collection it is welcome to take refuge in my home providing it bring its mate!

Solely Collectible !

My friend collects these adorable and witty boxes made of kaolin, a pure white clay that's necessary for the production of hard paste porcelain. In the city of Limoges, France there are more than thirty-six studios with skilled artisans who solely create aesthetic Limoges miniature gems like the one above.  I luv the idea that the creativity has been reengergized into creating new boxes that represent not only political causes but also endangered species with a portion of the proceeds from each purchase supporting the cause. Hmmm, amazingly I don't need a reason but I do need the revenue to step into  Marc Jacobs's whimsy sole below for Spring'09.

Solely Inviting !

Once upon a time a wondrous exhibition of lovely soles were being featured in provocative ways by a very innovative photographer named Tallulah and her friend Paul Wenger a brilliant lighting specialist. Together the two friends formed Paululah and formatted a stimulating vision of soles coming to life via their gifts of talent to create the exhibit: Soles Exposed tallulahsolesexposed . There is one more plus to this collaboration; writer Meghan Stewart who has created a story for each sole like the one above, called "A Stitch in Time" Hmmm, maybe Sergio Rossi's Spring'09 tantalizing sole below should be featured as " A Crowd Puller".

Solely Expressive !

Everyday I look forward to discovering something or someone I have never heard of before like Matthieu Missiaen a fab Parisien Graffiti artist who creates these jazzy, graphic soles like the ones above under the name NDEU. When I see Graffiti I think about Leo Tolstoy, one of my fav writers who commanded that people should be allowed to express their ideas through their artwork.
Hmmm, I totally agree, if it weren't for Lanvin's creative method of communicating this spirited sole from his Spring'09 Collection would be non-existent.

Solely Hip !

Curiously as I observe ceramist JoAnne Bedient's avant-garde raku sole above j.bedient I begin to fathom just what Baron Edward George Earle Bulwer-Lytton once said, "In life, as in art, the beautiful moves in curves." Hmmm, not only will you flex your arch in the gorgeous Louis Vuitton sole below but you'll swerve from a straight line twisting and turning.

Solely Elated !

Albert Einstein once said, "Personally, I experience the greatest degree of pleasure in having contact with works of art. They furnish me with happy feelings of an intensity such as I cannot derive from other realms." I solely agree with Einstein, matter of fact it's been said that if you wish to live a long life fill it with happy things. Hmmm, like serving 60 family members and friends the delicious Haute Couture Vanilla and Chocolate layered cake with Mocha Buttercream above created by the ingenious Shinmin Li of Idreamofcake.com. I can't think of anything more aesthetically pleasing than eating cake while wearing this adorable sugar-coated sole and its mate below by Roger Vivier from his Spring'09 Collection.

Solely Your Highness !

Okay I know wearing Stilettos like the one above in the print by Marco Fabiano at  www.allposter.com is impractical but they make me feel incredibly feminine and sexy and I must thank a Florentine shoemaker in the 1500's for inventing these dagger heels for Catherine de' Medici who was married to King Henry IV. When King Henry IV's court saw Catherine de Medici's elegant walk, they were sooo in awe; the stiletto not only gives the appearance of extra height but the change of one's posture! Hmmm, without a doubt Giambattista Valli certainly knows how to accentuate a calf with this glitzy heighten sole below for Spring'09.

Solely Beloved !

Books mesmerize me especially when they are not only in depth enchanting but outwardly aesthetic like Eugenia Girotti's book: Footwear La Calzatura from the Bella Cosa Library which is a series of elegantly designed paperback books. This is solely a must have book; it is filled with lovely soles accompanied with short descriptions of what inspired their design. Hmmm, it's absolutely amazing how a single thought could inspire Missoni to think big and discover a way to make this treasured sole below real.

Solely Inexplicable !

Today I made an extraordinary discovery:
phenomenal painter Lisa Fittipaldi
lisafittipaldi I must confess I experienced an unforeseen moment when I learned Lisa Fittipaldi an international artist is solely blind and paints what she envisions in her mind like the striking red soles titled Zapatos above. Hmmm, isn't it wondrous how powerful the mind is; just think everything we can see, hear and think of on this earth is created from our mind just like Christian Dior's spectacular red sole below for Spring'09.

Soles Sooo Inconceivable!

The world is my catwalk to promenade about wearing exquisite soles created by kaleidoscopic minds. Whenever I come eye to toe with a non-conforming sole I become immobilized. The moment I saw the Eve Series by Sculptor Linda Leviton lindaleviton.com/galleries/  who concoted the stupendous size 8 " Red Spiral Slippers" above in copper and brass wire I was in awe with her beyond belief talent . Hmmm, just like I am astonished each time I look at Yves Saint Laurent's thought provoking soles below.
