I confess I am solely happy to retire my Winter boots, as Author and Poet: Henry David Thoreau said, " We discover a new world every time we see the earth again after it has been covered for a season with snow." Yes we do and with that excavation comes beautiful art like Enrique Poza's painting: "Box 4" and captivating soles by designer Stephen Venezia for SS'09.

Michaelangelo said, " The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection" Speaking of divine perfection, one look at Jose Luis Bonavita's ethereal painting;"Blue Fish" and  Finsk designer; Julia Lundsten's unearthly sole for SS'09 makes me feel as if I've just died and gone to Heaven.

Solely Receptive !

American writer, Max de Pree once said, " We need to give each other space to grow, to be ourselves, to exercise our diversity. We need to give each other space so that we may both give and receive such beautiful things as ideas, dignity, joy, healing, and inclusion." Hmmm, it is that space that ignites the spark in Oscar Florit to paint "13 Blacks" and Martha Davis to create a sole, solely fetching for SS'09.

French writer, Henri B. Stendhal once said, " Beauty is the promise of happiness . " Hmmm, no doubt about it when I  gaze at Artist, Kate Allen's painting; "Gold Cashmere" and Designer; Mai Lamore's beauteous sole I am extremely happy !

 

Solely Treasurable !

Artist, poet and writer; Kahlil Gibran once said, " The most pitiful among men is he who turns his dreams into silver and gold." Hmmm, I wouldn't quite call Gustav Klimt painter of the Stoclet Frieze: "The Tree of Life" and Zoraide, designer of my last pair of soles purchased on my trip to NYC, pitiful. Matter of fact I say they are ingenious for conceiving such precious creations.

Solely Cleopatra !

I luv when Antony said " Give me my robe, put on my crown; I have immortal longings in me", - Shakespeare : Antony and Cleopatra , 5.2 . Hmmm, I wonder if his soles were as lovely as Cleopatra's plaited thongs . The moment I saw Office's soles with the hieroglyphic ankle cuff of gold metallic beads, I thought of Cleopatra. It's a lovely sole yet a bit heavy but a nice souvenir from the Top Shop's flagship store in Soho, Manhattan and speaking of souvenirs, Nature photographer: Maria Luisa Saviron Cuartango's photo would be a lovely gem to pick- up especially since it's titled 'Pick - Up' , must be a hint!

Solely Zoraide!

One of my fav verses is from " The Ragged Wood " by William Butler Yeats, it reads; " Or have you heard that sliding silver - shoed, pale silver proud queen - woman of the sky, when the sun looked out of his golden hood ? O that none ever loved but you and I ! " Hmmm, it looks like the Queen and I have something in common; Silver soles,solely perfect for promenading in Ged Mitchell's print "Silver Haze" ( P.S. - Inside the Zoraide book, is its history. It explains that each couture sole is handmade by Italian craftsmen and gives tips on how to preserve its beauty. The book is in both Italian and English.

Solely in Debt !

Hi everyone, I'm back ! Thank you for the wonderful comments, I solely missed you. I did manage to take inspirational writer, Catherine Pulsifer's advice: " Vacations often go too fast! Enjoy every minute !" I confess I did just that, lots of sole searching in DEBT but it was worth it. I would like to share with you for the next few days the soles I purchased, the first being Zoraide's lovely pair from last season, I tried to walk away but just couldn't resist. Hmmm, now if only I had Blanca Oraa's zealous painting wouldn't that be a trip ! ( p.s. Zoraide soles come with a lovely little book )

How about 'Lets take a Vacation say to NYC' yes I'll be leaving on a jet plane  tomorrow and yes I do know when I'll be back  April 19th  but before I  leave I would like to  share a lovely dose of Springtime Greenery to brighten your week, thanks to Artist, Molleda's painting: "Great Day I" and Designer, Isabella Zocchi's lovely sole for Spring'09. For me the quintessence of Art is its distinctiveness. As my fave writer; Victor Hugo once said,"Style is the substance of the subject called unceasingly to the surface."  Each time I gaze at artist, Marco Ferreira's "Untitled VII " painting and designer, Dusica Dusica's textural sole, I notice fashionable characteristics aesthetically materializing.

                                                   

Solely Tied Up !

Poet, Priest and Orator; George Herbert once said, "A gentle heart is tied with an easy thread" Hmmm, this must be why I feel sooo attached to Artist Javier Lechuga's painting,"Littles Striped" and designer, Haider Ackerman's spellbound sole below for SS'09.

Solely Exposed !

 

 Abstract Expressionist Painter: Hans Hoffman once said " The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak." Hmmm, it's no surprise that Dutch designers; Richard Hutten's " Dandelion Floor Lamp" articulates its openness while Hester Vlamings's sole enunciates its prominence.

Solely A Symphony !

German Composer and Pianist Ludwig Van Beethoven once said; "Artists are fiery, they do not weep!" No they don't, they just create unforgettable masterpieces like the one above titled; "A Young Beethoven" by Larry Wasan and cream of the crop soles to waltz in by Valentino for SS'09.

Solely Carnal !

 The moment I saw Picasso's  linocut ," Portrait de Jacqueline en Carmen " I sensed  a feeling of delight and pleasure in this enticing portrayal of  the lovely and impulsive Spanish Gypsy, Carmen in  French composer; Georges Bizet's opera ,"Carmen". Out of curiosity I began to wonder what coquettish soles would grace the feet of Picasso's Carmen, the answer, Omelle's sensuous sole .  Hmmm, now what could be tragic about that !

Solely United !

American Sinologist Pearl S. Buck said, " The person who tries to live alone will not succeed as a human being. His heart withers if it does not answer another heart. His mind shrinks away if he hears only the echoes of his own thoughts and finds no other inspiration. " Hmmm, it's impossible to not be inspired by Picasso's composed lithograph: ' Portrait en Deux Parties Noir et Blanc' and Gareth Pugh's well balanced sole for SS'09 solely because they stand not alone but in unity, side by side. No wonder their creators are successful!

As Irish dramatist, George Farquhar once said, " Grant me some wild expressions, Heavens, or I shall burst. " Whew! My wish has been granted thanks to Art photographer, Bruce Pinkard's giddy photograph, " Penny Black" and Alexander McQueen's woozy sole there shall be no spontaneous combustion today.

Philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, " Things are pretty, graceful, rich , elegant, handsome, but until they speak to the imagination, not yet beautiful." Hmmm, not only do Product Designer; Tord Boontje's "Garland Light" and designer Roger Vivier's exquisite sole below successfully communicate with my thought of creativity but they also aesthetically stimulate me with their beauty, therefore without a doubt they are solely beautiful.

Solely Amusing !

This morning as I poured a cup of coffee I heard a noise as I followed the sound to my surprise there was this tiny black mouse trapped inside of my umbrella holder. Considering the fact that I grew up with hamsters and gerbils I wasn't startled. I removed my umbrella and discovered it had been ingeniously chewed, quickly I released the adventurous but naughty little mouse to the outside world. Walt Disney once said, " We felt that the public, and especially the children, like animals that are cute and little. I think we are rather indebted to Charlie Chaplin for the idea. We wanted something appealing, and we thought of a tiny bit of a mouse that would have something of the wistfulness of Chaplin- a little fellow trying to do the best he could." Hmmm, thanks to artist Enrique Perez Sanchez's print, "Bad Mouse" and Jean-Charles De Castelbajac's mischievous sole, he'll be forever in my memory.

Solely Textural !

 

 Artist Lynda Lehmann says, " Texture is the most enduring and ubiquitous underpinning of form... certainly a calming, meditative and appealing world for both the eye and mind."   I solely agree, each time I look at Feli Manero's painting "Cross" I am overwhelmed by the beauty of these serene folds that quietly echo darkness via the shadows they cast. Author and artist, Edwin Schlossberg said, "Indifference is isolation. In difference is texture and wonder." This I feel as my eyes sense the passion of softness that reigns throughout Alexis Mabille's lovely sole for Spring.
